في السبعينات بدأت الجامعات و الشركات والمؤسسات الحكومية باستخدام شبكات الحاسب الألكتروني على نطاق واسع و بدأت الإنترنت بالظهور نتيجة ربط هذه الشبكات مع بعضها البعض و كانت البداية الفعلية في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وزارة الدفاع ( مادة التاريخ الإنترنت)
تقوم المنظمات و الشركات و حتى الأفراد بوضع المعلومات على الإنترنت بحيث يُمكن الإطلاع عليها من أي حاسب موصول على شبكة الإنترنت. هذه المعلومات تأخذ أشكال متنوعة منها المقروء و المرئي و المسموع. ( يجب التنويه هنا أن هذه المعلومات قد لا تكون بالضرورة صحيحة على إعتبار أنه يمكن لأي شخص أن يضع ما يشاء على شبكة الإنترنت /هل هذا صحيح ؟ / )
فعلى سبيل المثال يمكن استخدام الإنترنت لتبادل البريد الألكتروني، أو قراءة المجلات و الجرائد، أو متابعة أسعار العملات و القيام بعمليات التحويل، أو الإستماع للراديو أو مشاهدة الأفلام و بعض محطات التلفزة، كما يمكنك البحث عن عمل أو االقيام بدورة تعليمية.................إلخ من الخدمات.
من أشهر خدمات الإنترنت هما البريد الألكتروني Email و الشبكة العالمية World Wide Web و التي تختصر بـWWW و خدمة تبادل الملفات File Transfer Protocol و التي تُختصر بـ FTP كما أن الخدمات الأخرى المتوفرة تتسع تدريجياً مثل خدمات البحث و مجموعات الأخبار Newsgroups .
مادة التاريخ الإنترنت
بدأت الإنترنت عام 1969 كمشروع بحث تُشرف عليه وكالة (ARPA (Advanced Research Projects Agency في قسم الدفاع في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية بالتعاون مع بعض المتعاقدين و الجامعات و أُطلق عليها في البداية إسم ARPANET.
الهدف منها كان دراسة إمكانية تطوير شبكة إتصالات يمكنها النجاة من هجوم نووي و ذلك عن طريق تأمين عدة طرق لنقل المعلومات فإذا تم تدمير جزء من الشبكة يتم تأمين الإتصال عن طريق القسم المتبقي.
إنتقلت ARPANET بسرعة من مشروع بحث إلى وسيلة إتصال و استخدمت في خدمات البريد الألكتروني و مجموعات المناقشة و تبادل الملفات . إزداد حجم الشبكة تدريجياً و في عام 1979 ولد ت الـUsenet ( و هي عبارة عن شبكة كبيرة من مجموعات المناقشة) و أخذ عدد الجامعات الموصولة بالإنترنت يزداد تدريجياً.
بدأت شبكات أُخرى بالظهور تدريجياُ مثل BITNET و CSNET، لكنها عانت من مشكلة الإتصال مع بعضها فلم يكن من الممكن تبادل المعلومات بين هذه الشبكات المختلفة لإستخدامها طرق مختلفة في الإتصال. و في عام 1983 تم تطوير نظام تخاطب قياسي هو TCP/IP و بدأت جميع الشبكات المنفصلة إستخدامه مما أدى إلى تشكيل شبكة كبيرة نتيجة لإتصال هذه الشبكات مع و ظهرت الإنترنت.
في البدايات كان هناك ثلاث طرق للحصول على المعلومات من الشبكة. طريقتان من هذه الطرق كانتا تُستخدمان للبحث عن ملفات محددة من مجموعة الملفات المتواجدة على كومبيوتر واحد و هما Archie و WAIS أما الطريقة الثالثة Gopher فكانت تُستخدم للإبحار عبر الملفات باستخدام نظام القوائم و لكنها لا تؤمن خدمة البحث عن الملفات.
من أجل البحث عن الملفات تم تطوير بنية معطيات أُطلق عليها إسم(VERONICA (Very Easy Rodent Oriented Net-Wide Index to Computerized Archives و التي أصبحت بالتعاون مع Gopher من أنجح وسائل إستخدام الإنترنت .
في هذا الوقت كان مستخدمي الإنترنت من خبراء الكومبيوتر بسبب إعتمادها على النصوص في عرض المعلومات و لم يكن ينتشر إستخدامها في المنازل .
الـWWW
جاءت فكرة الـWWW من المخبر الأوربي لمادة العلوم الفيزيائية و التكنولوجية الجسيمات ( CERN ( The European Laboratory for Particle Physics و الذي كان بحاجة إلى وسيلة سهلة لمتابعة الوثائق و المعلومات المتوفرة لديهم حتى يمكن الوصول إليها و تحديثها. و يُعتبر السيد Tim Berner Lee الذي كانت لديه خبرة سابقة بالنصوص المتشعبة hypertext هو مخترع الـ Web و تم تطبيق المشروع عام 1992.
تم تطوير العديد من الطرق لإستعراض وثائق الـWWW كان أنجحها برنامج Mosaic الذي طوره السيد Marc Andersen من ( NCSA (National Center for Supercomputing Applications و الذي كان الخطوة التي أوصلت الإنترنت إلى ما هي عليه.
كيف تعمل الإنترنت:
تتألف الإنترنت كما ذكرنا سابقاً من تجمع لشبكات الحاسب المحلية المختلفة و التي تختلف في أنوعها من الشبكات الحكومية الضخمة إلى الشبكات المن التعليم المتوسطة و صغيرة الحجم. هذه الشبكات متصلة فيزيائيا ً بواسطة العديد من الأسلاك الخاصة لنقل المعلومات.
